eTwinning “ S.O.S.: Save Our Sea” - Part 4

Our February activities were dedicated to Safer Internet Day, which is usually celebrated on the second day of the second week of the second month each year. Its aim is to raise awareness about both safe and ethically responsible internet use, based on netiquette.

For 2025, the celebration was set on 11 February. From the beginning of the month, students from all participating countries started collaborating in a shared document with a  view to writing multiple-choice questions focusing on responsible and safe use of cyberspace and digital technologies, as well as on tackling cyberbullying. These were subsequently compiled into a common collaborative digital quiz, which was scheduled to be played on the celebration day.

All partners played the interactive quiz in their classrooms, giving students the opportunity to check their understanding and reinforce appropriate online behavior in a more playful and engaging way.

An additional activity for the occasion involved using an interactive platform, where students from all schools once again collaborated to create short rules and tips. These stemmed from what they had learned in the quiz and served as reminders for maintaining a responsible online attitude.

As a closing thought, their collective message can be summed up in the following phrase:

“Surf the internet wisely, just like you do at sea – because a careless click may sweep you away into dangerous currents!”

The activities scheduled for February were inextricably linked to a veterinarian’s visit, which took place at our school at the beginning of the month.

During this visit our students learned about different dog breeds and their unique abilities, how to safely approach unfamiliar animals, and how to act responsibly when adopting a pet. They discovered the importance of vaccinations, deworming, proper nutrition, daily exercise, grooming, and hygiene -not only for the pet’s health but also for everyone’s well-being.

Through active discussions, questions, and role-playing activities simulating real-life situations (like visits to the vet or everyday interactions with pets), the children realised that caring for an animal requires love, responsibility, consistency and commitment. Most importantly, they understood that as responsible citizens, they play a key role in creating a society that respects and protects every living being.

Building on the notes they had been asked to keep and the knowledge they had gained from this interactive presentation, our students worked in groups to write down rules for the proper care and respectful treatment of pets. Then they transformed these rules into colourful digital posters, which were uploaded to a collaborative noticeboard alongside posters from our partner schools in order to spread a shared message of responsibility and kindness toward animals.

Another highlight was the editing of the videos recorded during role-play activities that were guided by the veterinarian. Students added English subtitles to their performances, turning their improvisations into creative teaching tools that shared their newly acquired knowledge with their partners through the power of performative arts!

It is truly wonderful to see our students’ artistic talents shine while passing on knowledge in such meaningful and engaging ways!
