The new year found us full of energy and ready to dive into new challenges!
In January, all partner countries
contributed to a collaborative presentation with a view to creating a short
guide full of fun and unusual facts about pets. Our students carried out online
research, exploring a list of kid-friendly articles and videos. Each learner
then noted down -in their own words- the three most surprising or impressive
facts they had discovered. These formed the basis of the final selection, which
the students added to the presentation themselves, enriching it with representative
images and graphics, to make their texts even more engaging and easy to
understand.
Another exciting activity
involved interactive digital games related to pets. These games, such as
Kahoot, Wordwall, LaearningApps or Quizizz, created by the partner countries,
were based on either the facts that were mentioned in the presentation or on relevant
vocabulary. Our students had the chance to play the games designed by other
countries (and, if they wished, their own, too), reinforcing their knowledge
while having plenty of fun learning!
A real highlight this
month was a special programme called “We Love Guide Dogs” presented
by the centre Guide Dogs of
Greece. Our school welcomed Jackie, a trained guide dog who visited
along with her owner, a person with visual impairment. Students not only
learned about the training and vital role of these amazing animals, but also
experienced first-hand how a guide dog responds in real-life situations. Their
curiosity was sparked off, and they eagerly flooded the guest speaker with
thoughtful -and sometimes really surprising- questions.
It is truly inspiring to
see children’s curiosity come alive and their active participation turn into
reality!
