Professions can be discovered in unexpected and creative ways if perceived through a different lens: Reimagined through art. Each artwork is like a window opening onto other times and worlds, or even like a delicate thread interweaving our lives with the lives of people from past times, whose work, struggles, and dreams still speak to us today.
As a way of vocabulary
consolidation and expansion 6th-grade learners can be initially
exposed to a presentation which showcases 30 professions as depicted in art.
Beyond simple language practice, it can also become a springboard for speaking
activities in two directions:
1.
Role-play games – Students can
“interview” the figures in the paintings, asking them questions about their
work: their working conditions, responsibilities, skills, income, and
challenges. Thus, the artworks become interview settings, and the characters
step out of the frame to tell their stories.
2.
Critical reflection on change –
Learners can discuss how certain professions have evolved over time—or even
disappeared altogether and how new ones have appeared. In this way, art becomes
a mirror of social history, showing us not only how people worked, but how
societies themselves transformed.
3.
To extend the experience and
provide a form of vocabulary evaluation, the project is complemented by a
Kahoot quiz with 20 multiple-choice questions based on the
presentation. Saved in practice mode, it sets no
limits on time or number of participants. The quiz can be played together in
class for lively interaction, or the link can be shared for individual
self-paced practice.
Thus,
paintings transform into teachers, storytellers, and playful tools
of discovery, opening a dialogue between past and present,
between art and language learning.
