November 20th
is celebrated as the World Children’s Day since it is the day on which the Declaration
of the Rights of the Child was
issued.
To celebrate it creatively
in an English classroom we can organise a
Children’s Rights Gallery walk as follows:
The teacher separates the
learners in groups and hands out worksheets on which there are basic children’s
rights in one column and a simple explanation in the other in a mixed-up order.
The students should confer with their group in orderto do the matching.
Afterwards they have to
walk around the classroom, on the walls of which the teacher has put up photos
to illustrate each right. They have to do the matching by noting down the capital
letter in front of each photo beside the correct right on their worksheets.
Finally they can each pick
a right and illustrate it.
Below you can have a look
at some of my students’ illustrations as well as the worksheet and photos used
for the gallery walk.
